As an Indonesian who stays in Singapore, sometimes when I am craving for Indonesian food (other than Ayam Penyet), it’s quite hard for me to find the authentic and affordable one, especially the one that has quite similar taste like the food I used to eat in Indonesia.
I do believe it’s not only me who think that way. Perhaps there are those kind of place in Singapore, but it’s just under the radar.
So I will try to hunt these kind of restaurant that is selling other types of authentic Indonesian food (not Ayam Penyet 😂) and share with you all.
My first hunt brought me to Bakmi Town.
Located at Lucky Plaza, Bakmi Town is selling few types of Indonesian food such as Bakmi Ayam (Chicken Noodle), Bakso (Beefball), Bakmi Goreng (Fried Noodle), Bubur Ayam (Chicken Porridge), Pempek (Fish Cake) and few others cuisine. They even have Pisang Goreng (Fried Banana) and Tape Goreng (Fried Tapai).
All of the food’s price here are below than $10.
I tried Bakmi Goreng (Fried Noodle) $6.80.
Bakmi Goreng consists of fried noodle, fried egg, button mushroom, chicken cube, vegetables, chilli sauce, fried shallots and crackers.
This Bakmi Goreng taste was reminded me of Mie Goreng Tek-Tek that I had in Jakarta. To be honest, it was pretty similar.
It was quite spicy even though I didn’t put their chilli sauce. If you prefer not spicy, you need to let them know when you order.
The portion wise was also a lot.
I like this Bakmi Goreng so much and definitely would become my new favourite place to eat Indonesian style of fried noodle.
Do try it if you are in the Orchard area.
