Looking for a special food around Chinatown? You should try Chinatown Special.
Curious what is that?
Located at Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre, Chinatown Special especially is selling only one dish: Yang Chow Fried Rice.
This fried rice contains quite a lot of fresh shrimp. You can add additional topping with additional charges such as sunny side up egg, luncheon meat, fried crispy anchovies and dried shrimp floss.
I ordered fried rice with all of the additional toppings (sunny side up egg, luncheon meat, fried crispy anchovies and dried shrimp floss).
This fried rice taste like home cooked with no wok hei taste. Wok hei is stir fried – complex charred aroma that fleetingly cloaks the piping hot stir fries served at Cantonese restaurant and zi char joints.
For me, I considered this fried rice as a comfort food. I like this fried rice even though there is no wow factor.
Other special things with Chinatown Special is their opening hours. They open around 2 or 3 hours during weekdays. I asked the owner on why does he open only up to 3 hours daily and he said that he is already old. So, if you want to try his fried rice, do come early to avoid disappointment.
