Since I have started taking photography in 2010, historical building has been my favourite theme and still my favourite theme until now.
The reason is simple. It’s because for me, photography is about capturing the moment and remembering historical places in the future.
I remembered that the first historical building I took in 2010 was Whampoa Dragon Fountain. But somehow I couldn’t remember why, I lost all the pictures that I took (sad….).
So here I am in 2019, revisit the same Whampoa Dragon Fountain to take pictures of this majesty Dragon Statue one more time.
A little history about this Dragon. Whampoa Dragon Fountain was made on 1973.
Whampoa Dragon scales was colorful. It’s made with combinations of pink, red, green jade tiles mixed with broken pieces of porcelain bowls and marbles. Could you imagine how tough and how hard to put those scales by hand?
Initially the water was spouted from the dragon mouth. I saw the photo from online, it was very cool. But now, it doesn’t spout water anymore. Some people said that it’s because they worry of mosquitoes breeding.
I do believed that they built this dragon as a good feng shui to bring luck. When I took the picture of this dragon, I saw people jogging, passed by this dragon and prayed for a while.
Hope this Whampoa dragon can be preserved until very very long time and soared elegantly into the sky.
Location: in front of Block 85 of Whampoa Drive
