Today I will share with you about White Rhino that you can find inside Singapore Zoo.
White Rhino is a second largest land mamal and also known as Square-Lipped Rhinoceros.
In nature, white rhino live in wild Africa – Savannah grassland habitat. Their lifespan are around 15 – 20 years in the wild and around 40 – 50 years under human care.
White Rhino are normally eating grass and they can also eat fruits.
Rhino wallow in mud to cool off and dried mud act as as a sunscreen for them. In the wild, tickbirds pick out ticks and other parasites are hiding among the creases in the rhino’s skin. In the zoo, local birds also peck rhino’s flesh (common problem that is found in zoo around the world).
Singapore Zoo is aware about this, so Singapore Zoo keepers are always checking daily for an open wound, applying medicine and rubbing mud over for extra protection.
