I recently went to Tampines 1 and looking for a restaurant to get my late lunch.
After walking around, I passed by Gochi-So Shokudo and was attracted by one of the picture menu “Charcoal Grill Iberico Pork Jowl Don”. The pork jowl picture looked very yummy until I couldn’t resist to try.
Without thinking twice, I decided to try it. So here I am trying Charcoal Grill Iberico Pork Jowl Don from Gochi-So Shokudo.
A little story about Iberico Pork. Iberico Pork is a Black Iberian Pig which is one of the world’s best and healthiest pork. This pig (also known as walking olive tree) eats naturally on grasses, roots, herbs, acorns. Gochi-So Shokudo also uses finest grade of charcoal to enhance the flavour of this Iberico Pork.

Charcoal Grill Iberico Pork Jowl Don ($14.80) consists of Japanese rice in a bowl with Charcoal Grill Iberico Pork Jowl, special sauce, poached egg and pickled vegetables. They put the special sauce on top of the pork jowl.

The Charcoal Grill Iberico Pork Jowl has deliciously unique taste of pork. This pork jowl is also tender and has unique texture when you chew it. This is the first time I have experienced this unique taste and texture comes from pork. I like this Iberico pork jowl so much.

I mixed the poached egg with rice in hope to get richer taste as this Japanese rice taste was very bland. But apparently, it was still bland 😛. So I tried to mix the special sauce with the rice and I got the tasty taste that I was hoping for. But too bad, they didn’t give a lot of special sauce so I couldn’t mix it with all of the rice.
Overall I like this Charcoal Grill Iberico Pork Jowl Don. But if I can give some feedback, I hope they also provide extra special sauce in a separate small bowl/plate so we can mix it with the rice per our preference.
