Gu Ling Jing Guai is a Chinese word that mean WEIRD. What is your first impression when you see bakery store using this word as the store name?
For me, I think…..what kind of bread is that? I believed it’s a marketing strategy to attract people to try.
Well, they are successful of making me curious to buy the weird bread.
Located at Geylang Bahru Market and Food Centre, Gu Ling Jing Guai Bread is selling 14 different types of flavors: Kaya, Coconut, Red Bean, Cheese, Hot Dog, Ham, Otar, Luncheon, Pork Floss, Butter Sugar, Raisins, Curry Potato, Almond and Yam.
I have been visited this place few times and I tried 5 flavors: Hot Dog, Raisins, Yam, Kaya and Cheese.
This store is different than the other bakeries stores that you can easily choose the flavors you want. Why different? It’s because the store place is small. Since it is small, the uncle only manages to bake around nine or ten breads at one time and sells them really fast. So, if you are lucky, you could get the flavor you want or you might have to come back again.
For me, I had no luck to try their Butter Sugar. The uncle and aunty always said: NO MORE.
Same as Cheese flavor. I only manage to get one time. Luckily I bring my camera when I buy, so I can share with you the picture.
My favorite is Raisins bread because I like raisins and it’s so colorful.
I like their bread because it can be considered as an old school bread (I think so…..because the uncle and the aunty is quite old). It’s weirdly yummy, a bit chewy and fragrant. It has a unique taste that I could not described it for you unless you try it yourself. It’s just different than the other kind of breads that could be easily found inside the mall. Also, the uncle makes the bread himself and you can eat straight out of the oven.
The price is also cheap: 90 cents for Kaya, Coconut and Red Bean and the rests are $1.
Will I go there again? Absolutely yes.
