I recently found one Indonesian Halal food stall at one hidden small coffee shop located around Jalan Besar area named Impian Wahyu Arek Arek Suroboyo.
From the shop name I do believe the owner is from Surabaya.
Just in case if you are wondering the meaning of Impian Wahyu. Impian is a dream, so I guess the meaning is Wahyu’s dream to open this shop. Hehehe.
The first time I saw Impian Wahyu, I was really hoping that they served the authentic Indonesian cuisine because it was pretty hard to find in Singapore.
Impian Wahyu is selling few types of Indonesian cuisine, such as Rawon Pasuruan ($7), Ox Tail Soup ($10), Bakso Penyet ($7), Ayam Geprek ($7), Udang Penyet ($9), Bawal Penyet ($10), Soto ($5), Ayam Penyet ($7), Ayam Bakar ($8), Tahu Goreng ($5), Tahu Crispy ($5) and Asam Pedas Oxtail ($15).
I tried Ayam Penyet. Ayam Penyet consists of steamed rice with smashed fried chicken, fried tofu, sambal chilli, cucumber, crispy crumbs and soto soup.
Smashed fried chicken was crispy, well marinated and tasty. Actually the overall chicken meat was tender enough, just only a little bit on the side of the meat was a bit hard. Perhaps because they fried it until too crispy.
This sambal chilli was very spicy to the max (for me 😂). I believed that Indonesian people would love this sambal chilli. I tried my best, but I couldn’t finish this chilli as I couldn’t take too spicy food.
The fried tofu was also nice.
I liked their crispy crumb so much because it was very crunchy and it was delicious to eat with steamed rice.
The soto soup was also not bad and I mixed this soup with steamed rice to reduce the spiciness feeling of the sambal chilli 😂.
Overall I was satisfied with their Ayam Penyet. Next time I will try their Rawon Pasuruan.
In conjunction of Ramadan, they will take holiday from 19 April 2023 – 16 May 2023.
