Today, I want to share one of my dear all-time favorite snacks with you: Tanghulu!
If you’re unfamiliar, Tanghulu is a traditional Chinese treat made by coating fresh fruit in a layer of crunchy, rock sugar. Each skewer holds several pieces of fruit, creating a delightful mix of sweetness and texture.
Recently, I discovered a new Tanghulu stall inside the 313 Somerset basement called Kang Ji Sugar Coated Fruits. They offer a few different varieties, so I decided to try a mini box—and as a bonus, the seller even threw in a free Haw Tanghulu skewer!
Each mini box contains at least five skewers for $9.90. I chose a mix of fruits, including strawberries, purple and green grapes, and oranges. The sugar coating makes each piece sweet and wonderfully crunchy. We absolutely loved it!
The Haw Tanghulu was a nice surprise, too. If you’re wondering, haw refers to a type of fruit, which is both slightly tart and sweet.
Overall, it was such a treat, and I’ll definitely be back for more!
