A Hidden Gem: Nasi Kandar Hijrah in Johor Bahru
Today, I want to introduce you to a delicious halal food spot in Johor Bahru, recommended by my colleague: Nasi Kandar Hijrah.
Honestly, if it weren’t for my colleague’s tip, my dear and I would probably have never discovered this place, as it’s not very well-known online.
Typically, when we visit Johor Bahru, we share our meals. However, since Nasi Kandar Hijrah is located quite far from the Malaysian customs area and the place was packed with people, we felt it would be awkward to share just one plate. So, we ended up ordering two plates of Nasi Kandar.
A tip for first-timers: Nasi Kandar Hijrah also serves Nasi Briyani, so make sure you specify that you want Nasi Kandar when ordering.
The range of toppings here is extensive, and it took us a while to decide what we wanted. We tried a variety of options: fried chicken, fried squid, curry squid, chicken cubes, bitter gourd, egg, brinjal, beansprouts, and a few other items we can’t even recall.
When our food arrived, we were shocked by the portion sizes! Each plate was piled high, almost resembling a mountain. We were so full that we didn’t need to eat anything else for the rest of the day.
Highly recommended: The fried chicken is a must-try—crispy and flavorful. The fried squid was also excellent, and they were generous with the portions.
Overall, all the toppings were delicious. From the bottom of our hearts, we encourage you to visit Nasi Kandar Hijrah when you’re in Johor Bahru. You won’t be disappointed!
