Oloiya: A Strong Contender in the Bak Kwa Scene
When it comes to bak kwa in Malaysia, one name that often comes up alongside Loong Kee is Oloiya.
A friend of mine mentioned that Oloiya is one of Loong Kee’s closest competitors. Naturally, I was curious to try it out. At first, I assumed they were best known for their chicken bak kwa, given that their logo features a rooster wearing boxing gloves. But after sampling their offerings, I found myself preferring their pork bak kwa instead!

Beyond the usual chicken and pork options, Oloiya also offers some interesting variations, including squid bak kwa and pork bacon bak kwa. Sounds intriguing, right?
We decided to go with their pork bak kwa, and I must say—it was delicious. The texture was tender, and the flavor struck a perfect balance of sweetness and smokiness.

At the end of the day, I believe both Oloiya and Loong Kee have their own loyal fan base. Comparing them is tough because taste is so subjective—what one person loves, another might feel differently about. But if you’re a bak kwa lover, Oloiya is definitely worth a try!
