As a fan of Korean food reality shows, I know that Chef Jong Won Paik is a beloved and renowned chef known for his kindness and dedication to helping people, especially restaurant owners, improve their dishes.
So, when I heard that PAIK’s Noodle had opened at Waterway Point Mall, I was eager to try his creations.
To celebrate my birthday, my sister and brother-in-law took me and my dear there. We ordered two of their popular 2-in-1 Combos: Tangsuyuk + Jjampong and Tangsuyuk + Jajangmyeon. Each combo came with complimentary barley tea.
The Tangsuyuk, or sweet and sour pork, was different from the Chinese-style version. Here, the pork is fried to a crisp, almost like fried chicken, with a beautifully caramelized sweet and sour sauce. It’s both crispy and tender, with a delicate balance of flavors.
The Jjampong is a spicy noodle soup packed with pork, squid, mussels, and vegetables. This is, without a doubt, the best jjampong I’ve ever tasted. The fresh, bold flavors of the seafood really shine through in the broth, and the squid and mussels tasted exceptionally fresh. We loved every sip and bite.
As for the Jajangmyeon, it’s a dish of noodles served with a savory black bean sauce, pork, and vegetables. It’s best enjoyed hot, as the noodles can stick together if it cools. Mixing the sauce thoroughly with the noodles brings out the perfect flavor. We loved it too, though I have to say I still prefer the jjampong.
What about you? Do you prefer Jajangmyeon or Jjampong?
