A Taste of the Past: Discover Johor Bahru’s Iconic Restoran Hua Mui
Today, I’m excited to introduce you to a true gem in Johor Bahru—a place that’s been satisfying taste buds since 1946! It’s none other than the famous Restoran Hua Mui, a hotspot for tourists and locals alike. And yes, it’s been around so long that even my parents weren’t born when it first opened! 😄
Stepping into Restoran Hua Mui is like stepping back in time. The old-school vibe is real here, from the retro interior to the manual pulley system they use to deliver food from the first floor to the second! If you want to catch that in action, grab a seat upstairs—it’s quite a sight.
Now, let’s talk food. I had their signature dish, The Original Hainanese Chicken Chop, and paired it with the refreshing Rose Syrup Bancau.
The chicken chop is pure comfort on a plate: crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and topped with their special Hainanese sauce. It comes with green peas, onions, roasted tomatoes, and crispy potato wedges. What sets it apart? The chicken is marinated in premium eggs for extra flavor! Personally, I love drenching the whole thing in that rich Hainanese sauce—it’s just that good.
As for the Rose Syrup Bancau, it’s the perfect drink to beat the heat. Sweet, cooling, and packed with grass jelly—though, I still haven’t figured out what ‘Bancau’ means. 😂
All in all, my visit to Restoran Hua Mui was a hit! If you don’t mind waiting in line, it’s definitely worth the experience. Trust me, it’s not just a meal—it’s a trip down memory lane.
