Sun King Ryoriya: A Hidden Gem for Taiwanese and Japanese Cuisine
Today, I want to share a restaurant near my workplace called Sun King Ryoriya. This cozy spot first opened its doors in 2009, with the mission of making modern, authentic Taiwanese and Japanese Chuka Ryori cuisine both accessible and affordable here in Singapore.
Despite visiting Sun King Ryoriya several times, I’ve only now gotten around to reviewing it on my blog—even though I’ve been snapping photos of their food every time! 😄
The restaurant offers a wide variety of Taiwanese and Japanese dishes, including special lunch sets at great prices. This time, I opted for their Pork Chop Rice ($18).
The Pork Chop Rice is similar in concept to Lu Rou Fan (Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice Bowl). It’s served with a boiled egg, vegetables, and lu rou fan-style brown sauce, but instead of minced pork, you get a crispy pork chop.
The pork chop itself is generously sized and incredibly crispy—more so than your usual fried pork chop, which was a pleasant surprise. The brown sauce is flavorful, and the vegetables are fresh and crunchy.
The portion is huge, and honestly, it could easily be shared between two people.
Overall, I’m always pleased with the dishes at Sun King Ryoriya. If you’re a fan of Taiwanese or Japanese cuisine, I definitely recommend giving it a try!
