Did you remember the last time how long was the queue at Tendon Kohaku when it was opened at Suntec City Mall?
I still remembered it because I also joined one hour queue crowd to try this tendon. What a famous restaurant, right?
Fyi, tendon is a Japanese traditional donburi dish which contains bowl of rice topped with tempura.
I am not sure whether the Suntec City branch still has long queue or not but I will definitely be lazy to queue the second times 😂.
Luckily there is another branch inside Chinatown Point Mall that surprisingly don’t have queue at all.
So I went there instead to enjoy tendon.
They only have four different tendon to choose on their menu: Kohaku Tendon Set ($18.80), Vegetable Tendon Set ($17.80), Seafood Tendon Set ($23.80) and Truffle Kakiage Tendon Set ($20.80).
I tried their signature dish “Kohaku Tendon Set” which had two pieces of Prawn, Squid, a pair of French Beans, Pumpkin, Baby Corn, Shitake, Chicken Breast and Crab Meat Stick.
The set comes with Chawanmushi and Miso Soup.
Upon ordering, they asked me to choose between Hokkaido White Rice or Japanese 16 kinds Multi Grain and I chose Japanese 16 kinds Multi Grain.
They also asked me to choose the sauce whether I preferred original sauce, spicy sauce or mala sauce. I chose original sauce.
While they were preparing my tendon, they served Chawanmushi first. This Chawanmushi is nice.
I still remembered the first time I tried Tendon Kohaku at Suntec City Mall, the rice portion was bigger than this Chinatown Point Mall one. But in that time I felt super full (a bit too much) because the tempura was a lot and rice was also a lot. In the end after several bites, I couldn’t enjoy the tempura to the fullest because I was already full.
Now the rice was not much compared with the last time but because of that, I could totally enjoy all tempura.
They also put perfectly amount of sauce on top of the rice (not too less and not too many).
The tempura itself was not oily and very crispy. I liked these tempura so much.
The Japanese 16 kinds Multi Grain was also nice. At least I tried to eat healthier rice in the bowl of delicious tempura 😂.
