My last trip to Jakarta was during Hari Raya and let me tell you what interesting food that I tried during that festive. Of course it was Hari Raya festive food.
I knew that the food that I tried might not 100% identical with Hari Raya, but I did tried inside the restaurant named The People’s Cafe that was releasing this special Ramadan festive menu: Nasi Guyur Tikungan (IDR49.000 around SGD4.9 after promo discount).
I am not so sure the best term to explain this Nasi Guyur Tikungan in English, but hopefully you can get a glimpse after I share the ingredients in this Nasi Guyur Tikungan.
Nasi Guyur Tikungan consists of Indonesian style of beef fried rice, colourful crackers, fried shallots and separate bowl of Gulai gravy (Indonesian style of curry).
Since this name has the word ‘Guyur’ (poured in English), the correct way to eat this dish is to pour all of the Gulai gravy into the beef fried rice. Quite unique, right?
As expected from Indonesian style of fried rice, this Nasi Guyur Tikungan is deliciously full of flavour and has a unique sensation eating non-dried fried rice.
My dear tried Mie Pedes Judes (Extremely Spicy Noodle). Fyi, Mie Pedes Judes is a blacklisted food for people that cannot take spicy food. Do trust me and do not try it unless you can bear the consequences 😂.
Mie Pedes Judes actually had three different spiciness level: Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Even though my dear chose Level 1, this noodle was already unbearable spicy.
To be honest, without their chilli armour wrapped this entire noodle, this noodle actually is our type of savoury noodle. It’s pity because it’s too spicy for human being like us 😂.
Luckily we also ordered the refreshing drinks named Es Podeng Lapis Ijo (IDR36.000 around SGD3.60) that would cooled down the spiciness of Mie Pedes Judes.
Es Podeng Lapis Ijo itself is a unique beverage creation because this is a fusion beverage that combines drink with ice cream (Es Krim Podeng) and traditional cake (Kue Lapis Pandan).
Could you imagine, is it nice or weird combining traditional cakes with beverage? Apparently, it’s a fabulous creation and I like it so much. It has a good balance of sweetness and kue Lapis Pandan is super nice & chewy. Es Krim Podeng is also tasty.
Overall, we enjoyed eating and drinking these dishes from The People’s Cafe.
