Most of the food I have been eating when I stay in Singapore is mixed rice.
Yup, mixed rice is the best option that I can have in one complete meal, so I can eat meat, vegetables and egg without spending too much money compared with the restaurant one.
To be honest, mixed rice is also a healthier choice for me because normally I feel it’s worthless to order vegetables at restaurants. Sad, but this is the fact 😂.
Well, since I bring this mixed rice topic, today I will share with you about Indonesian version of mixed rice that I found on the road side along small alley at Gang Kalimati – Glodok Jakarta.
This small eatery place name is Warung Janda.
In case you understand Indonesian language, I need to clarify about their name. Janda in this name doesn’t mean a widow, but it’s a short term for Jawa & Sunda.
So the shortest explanation that I can tell you is this eatery place is selling Javanese and Sundanese style of mixed rice.
Since our agenda of visiting Glodok area was all about culinary, we tried our best to try as much as we could, yet not made our stomach sad because it needed to digest too much 😂. So we shared this mixed rice which contained squid, bitter gourd, Balado eggplant and Curry petai.
It’s full of vegetables right? 😂😂 I know, i know, balado eggplant and curry petai may not a healthier choice one, but it’s still counted as a vegetable for me 😂.
The squid is delicious, tender and not as salty as common squid from the other place.
Balado eggplant and curry petai really bring up the savoury taste of this dish and stimulate our appetite to eat this mixed rice.
Well, don’t complain yet because bitter gourd is helping to reduce sugar level inside our body (I guess because it’s tasted bitter 😂).
As far as we monitored, seems Warung Janda is selling Halal food but to play safe, please clarify with them one more time before you order.
Last but not least, we really enjoyed this kind of environment: sitting at the road side eating this mixed rice and chatting laughing with the seller and other customers.
