Hi all, today is a bit special because I will share with you one of my fauna pictures that was taken from Singapore Zoo, Pygmy Hippo.
Pygmy Hippo is a small Hippopotamid which is a native to the Upper Guinea forests of West Africa.
Normally, Pygmy Hippo eat leaves, roots, ferns and fallen fruit.
Pygmy Hippo have greyish-black skin which is smooth and thin. It’s to help them to stay cool in the humid rainforest. They also dehydrate quickly in the sun so they could survive the heat by staying in the water.
Pygmy Hippo have behaviour to open widely their mouth (almost 180 degrees) whenever feel threatened. So even though Pygmy Hippo are cute, still be careful if you meet them opening their mouth widely in the wildlife. They have very strong mouth and sharp teeth. Their teeth can be grow up to about 51 centimetres.
Pygmy Hippo is currently at very high risk of extinction in the wild due to loss of their habitats and illegally hunted. So protect them by not supporting ilegal hunting and take care of their habitat instead of destroying it for the profit.
