Craving for an Indonesian food around Orchard area? I have one good recommendation that I feel is a hidden gem because it seems that this place is not so well known compared to the other Indonesian food nearby.
This place name is Special Nasi Padang Berlian.
Special Nasi Padang Berlian is selling quite a range varieties of Indonesian food from Nasi Padang, Soto Betawi, Pempek until Gorengan (fritters).
My dear and I ordered Nasi Padang set, one Gorengan Bakwan (vegetable fritters) and one Es Teh Manis.
Nasi Padang set’s price is from $6-$8 depends on the meat that you choose (chicken or meat). It includes one meat selection, two vegetables and two types of chilli sauce.
We chose beef rendang and added additional Jengkol (Stinky Beans).
Although they gave a little bit portion of Jengkol and the price was a bit pricey but the taste nailed it so we didn’t mind.
But despite of that, they were so generous on giving steamed rice portion. They were asking us whether the rice was enough or not and in the end they gave us more rice 😏.
The beef rendang taste was not as what we expected because we were hoping the rendang taste was thicker but the beef texture wise was the same (not as tender as Singaporean version).
The two vegetables that we chose were the must order vegetables to make it as an authentic Nasi Padang. Both were tasty and the chilli was also legit.
Gorengan Bakwan was the highlight of the day. It was very crunchy, tasty and really similar like the Indonesian one.
Es Teh Manis was also same like Indonesian one. It was very nice.
We recommend you to try especially their fritters.
