This time, I will share with you one old school unique famous Russian restaurant with a heavy Hainanese flavours influences.
Curious which restaurant is this? It’s Shashlik Restaurant.
Shashlik restaurant is one of the legend restaurants in Singapore for more than 30 years operating and have been staying strong until now.
A little story about Shashlik restaurant: Shashlik restaurant’s Russo-Hainanese heritage was born from the legendary Troika Restaurant in 1963, where Hainanese chefs first interpreted the timeless recipes of Russian Chef, Mamochka Liber. When Troika’s golden era ended in January 1986, nine former employees pooled their life savings together and opened Shashlik Restaurant in April 1986, an ode to their Russo-Hainanese culinary heritage. Their passion for food and genuine appreciation for every diner quickly established the Shashlik Ah Kors as stalwarts on the local dining scene. Shashilk restaurant also win many awards for their delicious dishes. What a great history of Shashlik restaurant.
Shashlik Restaurant currently is having Eat Box meal that can be ordered for delivery.
There are eight different meals to choose: Hainanese Pork Chop, Beef Stroganoff, Hae Bee Hiam Pasta, Fish and Chips, Blinis Bento A (Beef Tenderloin), Blinis Bento B (Alfredo Chicken), Blinis Bento C (Pulled Pork) and Blinis Bento D (Vegetarian).
The price for each box is $12 (includes GST). You can add $5 for choices of Borshch or Mushroom soup and a famous Sweet Butter Roll.
I try Hainanese Pork Chop, Beef Stroganoff, Hae Bee Hiam Pasta, Blinis Bento C, Borshch Soup, Mushroom Soup and Cherries Jubilee.
Hainanese Pork Chop contains of Pork Fillet, Chicken Rice Balls, Cherry Tomatoes, Mixed Greens and Sweet & Sour sauce. This Hainanese Pork Chop is simillar to old school Hainanese Pork Chop and it’s difficult to find authentic Hainanese Pork Chop in Singapore nowadays. It’s delicious. When you are eating this Hainanese Pork Chop, don’t forget to add Sweet & Sour sauce for the best experience.
Beef Stroganoff contains of Beef Tenderloin, Butter Rice and Pickled White Cabbage. The taste is unique and new for me. I enjoy so much eating Beef Stroganoff.
Hae Bee Hiam Pasta contains of Spicy Shrimp Linguini, Crunchy Prawns, Curry Leaves and Pickled White Cabbage. This pasta is very delicious and I am glad to try it. You should try it as well when you order food from Shashlik Restaurant.
Blinis Bento C consists of Pulled Pork, Roasted Beetroot, Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, Millet, Arugula, White Cabbage and Hard Boiled Egg. This dish comes with options either Itallian or Balsamic Olive Oil dressing. I do believed this Blinis Bento C is an authentic Russian food. It’s not bad to try.
Borshch is a hearty classic Russian broth, served with a chunks of beef brisket and slow cooked to perfection. It’s tasty.
Mushroom Soup is also a good choice to order. It’s nice.
The last is Cheeries Jubilee. Cheeries Jubilee consists of Cheeries flambeed with liqueur. This Cheeries Jubilee taste is unique and have distinctive taste (in a good way).
Overall I like the food from Shashlik restaurant.
