Today I will share with you one Indonesian old school snacks named Kue Cubit and Kue Laba-Laba that in the past, you could easily found it outside the school, park, some of the restaurants and mall.
Nowadays it’s not so common to find Kue Cubit and Kue Laba-Laba although this food haven’t yet become super hard to find.
I found this seller using pushcart standing outside Gelanggang Olahraga Velodrome Rawamangun selling Kue Cubit and Kue Laba-Laba.
Fyi, there are two types of Kue Cubit that you can choose: fully cooked Kue Cubit and undercooked Kue Cubit.
I do believe you are jump inside your mind when I said undercooked. Yes I know it’s not healthy, but…..we all prefer unhealthy food right? 😂😂.
I ordered undercooked Kue Cubit and one Kue Laba-Laba.
I also personally requested him to make new undercooked Kue Cubit and Kue Laba-Laba so I could record it (my dear helped me to record this video because I was busy taking this cake pictures with my camera).
I honestly don’t know why they named this cake Kue Cubit (Pinch Cake in English). Perhaps because they need to pinch this cake in order to take this cake from hot iron cast mold plate.
I like this undercooked Kue Cubit. He also put quite a lot chocolate sprinkles on top of Kue Cubit.
He uses the same batter as Kue Cubit to make Kue Laba-Laba. The only different is the shape of this Kue. Kue Laba-Laba (Spider Cake) shape is similar like spider web. That’s why the name of this cake is Spider Cake.
Kue Laba-Laba is crispier than Kue Cubit but don’t have chocolate sprinkles on top of this cake.
Overall I was really happy to find this seller and I like both Kue Cubit and Kue Laba-Laba.
It brought childhood memories back when eating this cake.
To be honest, not only Kue Cubit and Laba Laba but there were a lot of other types of Indonesian old school snacks that soon or later would be gone because people prefer other countries cakes rather than these Indonesian old school snacks.
I will try my best to hunting other snacks on my next Jakarta trip 😊.
