Recently in Jakarta, there has been a hyped phenomenon during the fasting period (Ramadan) called “Takjil War” (War Takjil in Indonesian language).
“Takjil War” is an activity of hunting desserts starting from 3pm until breaking the fast. The thing is, because a lot of people want to buy, there are super long queues of people competing to get these desserts, so whoever is lucky enough can get the desserts. We can only easily find these kinds of desserts during Ramadan, and these desserts are very delicious.
Because of that hype, my dear and I wished to find Takjil desserts in Singapore and were curious about what kind of desserts they sell in Singapore during Ramadan.
Because we didn’t know where to go, we decided to go to Kampong Glam Pasar Malam, and along the way, we found one restaurant named Kampong Glam Cafe selling takeaway desserts.
Without hesitation, we bought two kinds of desserts: “Bubur Cantik” a.k.a. “Bubur Madura” by Papamis Pantry and a dessert like “bubur sumsum” with green-colored syrup by Goola.”Bubur Cantik” is inspired by “Bubur Madura,” which contains bubur sumsum (rice flour porridge with pandan flavor), candil (made from glutinous rice flour shaped like a ball dipped in palm sugar syrup), red sago, and black sticky rice.
This “Bubur Cantik” is surprisingly tasty. The candil is chewy, the black sticky rice is yummy and fresh, and the bubur sumsum has a green color from the pandan. The red sago is also nice.
The “Bubur Sumsum” with green-colored syrup has a unique taste, and it’s sweet. This dessert is nice, but it’s not our cup of tea.
Overall, we are really happy to find these desserts, and it seems they are different from the takjil in Jakarta.
